๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA

Written by Avery

What is 2FA?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Gotrade account. Even if someone have access to your email, they cannot access your account without the second verification step. On Gotrade, 2FA is available via an authenticator app.

How to enable 2FA in the app?

  1. Open the Gotrade app and go to Profile โ†’ Security โ†’ Authenticator app

  2. Then continue to set up authenticator

  3. Download an authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy) if you don't have one

  4. Scan the QR code shown on screen with your authenticator app

  5. Enter the 6-digit code generated by the app to confirm

  6. 2FA is now active on your account

Logging in with 2FA enabled

  1. Enter your email and OTP (or magic link) as usual

  2. Open your authenticator app and find the Gotrade entry

  3. Enter the 6-digit code โ€” it refreshes every 30 seconds

  4. You're in

Which authenticator apps work with Gotrade?

Any TOTP-compatible authenticator app works, including Google Authenticator, Authy, and Microsoft Authenticator. We recommend using Authy as it supports cloud backup, which makes recovery easier if you lose your phone.

I lost access to my authenticator app. What do I do?

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, you will need to contact our support team to disable or reset your 2FA. We will verify your identity before making any changes to your account security.

Contact us at support@heygotrade.com, then include your registered email and a brief description of your situation. Our team will guide you through the recovery process.

How do I disable or reset 2FA?

If you still have access to your authenticator app, you can disable 2FA directly from Profile โ†’ Security โ†’ Disable 2FA and confirm with your current authenticator code.

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, contact support at support@heygotrade.com to request a reset.

Will switching phones affect my 2FA?

Yes. Your 2FA is tied to your authenticator app on your current device. Before switching phones, make sure to either transfer your authenticator accounts to the new device (Authy supports this natively) or disable 2FA from the Gotrade app first, then re-enable it on the new device.

Is my Gotrade account at risk if I use a shared or public device?

We strongly recommend only logging into Gotrade on your personal, trusted device. On shared or public devices, your login credentials may be saved in the browser, exposing your account even if 2FA is enabled. Always log out after each session and avoid saving passwords on shared devices.

What are the risks of 2FA I should know about?

Two risks to be aware of:

  • Phishing: Attackers may create fake Gotrade login pages to capture your credentials and OTP code in real time. Always verify you are on the official Gotrade app before entering any code.

  • SIM swap (SMS-based 2FA only): Attackers can impersonate you to your mobile operator and redirect your number to their device. This is why Gotrade uses authenticator apps rather than SMS โ€” authenticator-based 2FA is not vulnerable to SIM swap attacks.
